Sept. 1995       South Shore Charter School opens.
Sept. 1996       Headmaster/CEO and Defendant Timothy Anderson eliminates curriculum.
Oct.  1996       Anderson survives motion by School Trustee calling for his immediate removal.
Jan.  1997       Anderson purges faculty and staff. One-third of student body withdraws.
Feb.  1997       Plaintiff Roberta Beck defiantly eradicates CEO’s unsupported tuition claims.
July  1997       Beck and Plaintiff Rod Young publicly testify to Anderson’s fiscal fraud.
July  1997       Inspector General charges School with violations of General Law.
Aug.  1997       Plaintiff David Higgs files first of plaintiffs’ three complaints alleging fraud.
Oct.  1997       Young and Higgs give evidence of unwarranted tuition claims to State Auditor.
Nov.  1997       Anderson defames Higgs, Young, and others in school newsletter.
Dec.  1997       State audit of School’s initial 2-1/2 years operation commences.
Mar.  1998       Department of Education conducts its second site visit to School.
May   1998       School and DOE begin concerted campaign to defame Beck, Higgs, and Young.2
Feb.  1999       DOE Assoc. Comm. and Defendant Scott Hamilton resigns after accusations.3
May   1999       State Report of Audit charges $1.1 million in unsupported tuition claims.
May   1999       School trustees vote not to renew CEO Anderson’s contract in fiscal year 1999.
July  1999       Trustee, Defendant Gregory Thornton conceals internal investigation into tuition claims. 4
July  1999       Beck, Higgs, and Young send presentment letters of their defamation suit.
Aug.  1999       Plaintiffs demand that DOE re-investigate previous charges filed with School.
Sept. 1999       Plaintiffs petition Secretary of State to release report of internal investigation.
Jan.  2000       Plaintiffs file defamation suit ‘Beck et al. v. DOE et al.’
Jan.  2000       DOE issues report of re-investigation exonerating Anderson and School.
Jan.  2000       State Board of Education renews School’s charter  through 2005.
July  2000       Defendants deny plaintiffs’ production request for report of internal investigation.
July  2000       Secretary of State orders report of internal investigation released as public document.
Nov.  2000       Court denies motion to sanction defendant and attorney for violating discovery. 5
Nov.  2001       Summary judgment hearing held.
Feb.  2002       Court dismisses all charges against defendants.
Mar.  2002       Plaintiffs file notice of appeal.
Apr.  2003       Official copy of transcript of summary-judgment hearing delivered to plaintiffs.
